Finding somebody reliable in Harare runs on word of mouth. You ask a neighbour, who asks their cousin, and eventually a number arrives on WhatsApp with no surname attached. It works, and it does not scale — and if you are new to a suburb, or the person you would have asked has moved, it does not work at all.
Trustline is an attempt to write that network down. Every business here has a page with its trades, its area, its hours and its prices; every review is tied to somebody who actually made contact; and the ones that have had an identity checked say so. Then it gets out of the way, because the conversation you need to have is with the plumber, not with us.
It is new. There are trades with nobody in them yet and suburbs with one listing. That will look thin for a while, and pretending otherwise by inventing numbers would be a strange way to start a business built on being checkable.
Businesses pay for two things: a lead, when they choose to take on a posted job, and a placement, when they bid for a spot at the top of a trade. That is all. Customers pay nothing, and we take no percentage of the work — what you agree with a business is what they get.
Only in the slot that says Sponsored on it, in those words. Everything else is ordered by how well it matches, how it is rated, how fast it answers, and how near it is. A business cannot buy a rating, a review, or the verified badge.
A real identity document was checked against the account by a person. We keep the fact that it matched and throw the document away — so a badge means somebody stood behind that listing with their name, and it does not mean we are holding a scan of their ID.
No. They can reply to it, and they can dispute it — at which point the reviewer is asked to show that they really dealt with that business. Reviews that cannot be backed up are removed. Reviews the business simply dislikes are not.
No, and it would be dishonest to imply otherwise. Trustline introduces you; the agreement is between you and the business. What we can do is make it easy to tell who is worth calling and hard for somebody who does bad work to hide from it.
